BPM

Also called: Business Process Management · process automation platform

The discipline and software category for designing, executing, measuring and improving business processes as governed assets.

BPM — Business Process Management — treats processes as assets that are designed, executed, measured and improved deliberately, rather than as whatever the organization happens to do. As a software category, a BPM platform is an engine that runs those processes: activities, decisions, rules, deadlines, integrations and the evidence each instance leaves behind.

What separates a BPM engine from a workflow tool is scope. A workflow moves a task from one person to the next. A BPM platform coordinates activities, data, business rules, service levels and indicators, and can demonstrate afterwards what happened, who decided it and on what basis.
