Operational decision
Also called: operational decisions
A determination made within a process to select a path, assign a resource, approve or reject, compute a priority or trigger an exception.
A determination made within a process to select a path, assign a resource, approve or reject, compute a priority or trigger an exception. It must document its input data, the applicable rule, who or what decides, the expected output and the evidence it leaves.
Every operational decision should declare three things: what data it consumes, what rule it applies and what evidence it leaves. Those that do not are settled by individual judgement, and the process produces outcomes that depend on who was on shift.
