State and transition

Also called: states and transitions

How the executable process is implemented: states represent the situations a case can be in, and transitions the conditions allowing movement between them.

How the executable process is implemented: states represent the situations a case can be in, and transitions the conditions allowing movement between them. Every transition must rest on explicit data and rules.

It is how the diagram becomes executable. The practical consequence is that rules hang off the transitions: what must be true to move from one state to the next, and what evidence is left behind on the way.
