A model holding that organizational change requires individual change through five outcomes: awareness, desire, knowledge, ability and reinforcement.

A model holding that organizational change requires individual change through five outcomes: awareness, desire, knowledge, ability and reinforcement. It translates into five questions about whether users understand, want, know, can, and are reinforced.

Its practical use is diagnostic: when adoption fails, it identifies which of the five outcomes it stalled at. It is almost always desire or reinforcement, and the project had almost always invested everything in knowledge and ability.
