Design constraint

Also called: constraint

A non-negotiable design condition, typed as time, cost, compliance, quality, risk or experience.

A non-negotiable design condition, typed as time, cost, compliance, quality, risk or experience. It must be declared before modelling the flow, because it determines gateways, controls, validations, service levels and exceptions.

Typing it forces a decision on its nature, and the treatment follows. A compliance constraint is not negotiable; a cost constraint is optimised; an experience constraint is weighed. Treating them all alike is what produces designs that cannot be approved.
