Configuration item
Also called: CI · configuration items
A governable element that supports services and processes: applications, assets, technology components or critical resources.
A governable element that supports services and processes: applications, assets, technology components or critical resources. It differs from an IT asset in that its attributes describe the state it must hold and are controlled; deviation is a nonconformity.
What turns an asset into a CI is being governable: knowing which service it supports and what changes when it changes. An equipment inventory without those relationships is a purchase list, not a configuration base.
